Nurses:
We are so lucky to
have the best nurses money (well not much of it) can buy.
The nurses are headed by
Rebecca O'Callaghan (formerly Barry) who is our longest serving employee. Beck has a sideline business
in preparing and competing on those horses that are worth more when they appear
spotted ($5000 with them and $500 without them). She has long ago realised that there is only one way to keep the vets
working (keep abusing them). We are particularly grateful to her for organising
the whole surgery area into a vibrant and efficient work place.
Lisa Blake:
Lisa at just 19 is the youngest nurse (by a fair margin I reckon) and most recent appointment. It wasn't a difficult decision to employ her as she had already spent two years working part time on the stables. You can always tell when Lisa is here at the hospital by the sight of her canary yellow little ute. Lisa has a bright and bubbly personality and is always helpful around the hospital and
is always looking for the next job to be done which is what we love to see. She lives in Shepparton and has her own horses.
Currently she is doing the veterinary nursing course through Wangaratta TAFE.
Tina King: Tina was well known to us as she worked at Morningside for almost years before she started work with us. She is not local as she hails from Werribee but obviously loves the north east as she has already had a job up here at
Chateau Tahbilk winery. In addition she lives in Nagambie with her partner, which is a about 40 minutes from the hospital. She has completed massage course for horses and currently is enrolled in the second year of the Wangaratta TAFE nursing course. A bit of a worry was that she wasn't able to decide who came first between the boyfriend and the car.
Emma Klug:
Emma is a relative local. She lives in Longwood and has a long working
history in the area. She is not afraid of hard work and is happiest when busy.
She takes her roles seriously and already has adopted the digital radiography
system as part of her management skills. She is one of the hardest workers I
have seen. I thought we were paying her enough but she still does jobs on
weekends like foal watch. Just can't seem to stop her working.
Allison
Rotherham: Ally is a Geelong girl. You should have seen her last year when Geelong won the AFL Final. Tears in her eyes. She likes horses so much she even helps
train her own racehorse (it must not be that fast as she hasn't mentioned any
good tips yet). The thing about having a slow racehorse or two, is that you get to visit places that you have never heard of before. All those country tracks that are way out there (just to get a run). Ally lives in Avenel and drives 45 minutes to work
every day. Allison has a heart of gold and will do anything to help (if you can find her- just kidding).
